The Sefardita, or sephardic protagonist gives a mystic and inscrutable glance to the artist and, through her, to the viewer who is separated even further from the original moment. She is mysteriously serene and beautiful as she emerges from the distance of immeasurable time and through the filtering lens of the artist's vision. At first glance stark and realist, the portrait fades into textured abstraction at its perimeter and seems to waver between clarity and obscurity. The edges of the original are dressed with found materials to provide additional layers of physical and psychic depth to the piece.
